Coming of age blog post due 6-11-12

During this coming of age unit I spent some time reading the book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" By: Sherman Alexie. In the book the main character Junior was being bullied at his school which was on a Native American reservation, and he took a step back and realized that all the people that live on the reservation have gone to the community school, and they have all ended up nowhere. This observation made Junior decide that he wanted to do more and better than all those around him and took it upon himself to go to an all white school twenty miles away off of the reservation called Reardan High School. This wan an very promising example of coming of age, taking on responsibility and being proactive. This could help me and I could apply it to my life by stopping and thinking about my actions and what the results would be. Although the main character Junior was considered a traitor for going to another school, in fact he lost his only real friend, and was beat up for doing so but he still continued because he knew it was what was best for him; He was also beat up at school by big jocks, but he fought back, he didn't just take it like he usually did, and by doing so the jocks stopped messing with him because now they respected him. There were many lessons that could be taken from this story, but the one that I feel is most important is being proactive, stopping and thinking before I make a move which is something that I will definitely apply to my life.

Coming of Age

In the book "The Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian" Junior (the main character) is soon now attending his first year of high school. Junior has a lot of conditions/ disabilities that make him different, and more of a responsibility compare to what would be considered as a normal family. He is now at the age where other people shouldn't have to take care of him. since he is a young man he need to take the initiatives and stand up for himself as appose to letting people take advantage of him.

 

He has now reached the age where he is learning new things about himself, his family and his life in general. I can personally relate to this because I'm reaching a point and time where I am be held accountable for more and more things, and my level of responsibility has been increasing numerously.

These are majority of the "coming of age details that stand out me in th ebook that I am reading.

In the article "What Really Happened to the Titanic?" by Jennifer Marino seem to show the more scientific side of the tragic tale of the titanic that wrecked on April 14th 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Over the years many have said that the cause of the cruse ship the R.M.S Titanic to sink on April 14th 1912 (one hundred years ago from yesterday )was due to a crash in with an iceberg. but Matlin read weathers records and testimony from survivors plus facts from the ships log research supports his theory that the titanic sailed into a freezing Labrador Current and the air columns cooled causing layers of cold air to pile up below layers of hot air which is also known as thermal inversion. This caused light to bend and the horizon appeared to be where is wasn't (a false horizon). causing the iceberg to be hidden so those aboard the ship didn't see the ice berg until it was directly in front of the ship and the two were about to collide.

This theory doesn't disregard the fact that the iceberg was there but it just gives more explanation as to why the incident occurred.  The scientific explanation explains why and how the R.M.S Titanic sun st 2:20 am on April 14th 1912.

The article by Jennifer Marino clarifies and explains why the tragic death of thousands of people occurred on that day and why the captain, crew members and guest on the crews ship didn't see the ice burg causing many deaths.

break hw blogs that I liked

One blog that I very much enjoyed was Sofia's blog from class 807. Sofia's blog post on Picasso because it was structured in a way that wasn't confusing and made it easy to understand her work. She organized the paragraphs in a way that they focused on one topic and it covered all the grounds/ basics of Picasso. There was also a sense of effort in Sofia's work she didn't just do the bare minimum she really tried and it showed in her blog post, she even added a photos of Picasso's work.

Another post that I enjoyed and thought was a good example on how I should write my blog post was Diana's blog post on Much Ado About Nothing.  She split the post into three paragraphs the first paragraph talked about the cast members as a whole and what she thought they did well. The second Paragraph talked about the individual cast members and what was done well by them. And finally the last paragraph talked about the bad and how she felt about the plot and the ending, which is something I need to incorporate into my writing structure.

What I need to incorporate into my writing is structure. I also need to put more effort and time into my blog post. and lastly I need to make my post longer and incorporate more detail into my blog post.

BREAK HW READING RESPONSE

Katniss is having regrets, regrets about participating in the Hunger Games although she did it for her sister.

Katniss has a lot of stress she feels as if everything that she has done up to this point is her fault. Not only was it hard enough emotionally in the Hunger Games but the one person that she got close with in the arena: Rue was killed. A spear strait through her chest. "Who else would I fail to save?"  The mental stress of blaming herself for all that has gone wrong during this savage process.

 

The comfort from Gale is helping Katniss get through the after math of this mind bottling experience, especially after they had their moment in the wood where their lips met in such an unexpected turn of events.

What will happen to Katniss next.....?

In the book Catching Fire By: Suzanne Collins the main character

Katniss is back from the Capitol with Peeta as winner of the hunger games, and now they are being showered in fame and glory. Not only did they win but they are the first ever two victors;  now they must keep up the lie of them being star crossed lovers for the press or Else they will upset many if not all of the districts because they cheated the hunger game. when Katniss got back home to district 12 she was welcomed with a surprise visit from President Snow who was sitting in her living room. During the visit he implied that he didn't like being fooled and the there would be repercussions on katnisses part.

After the Hunger Games, Gale and Katnisses relationship isn't as strong as it was. I think a contributing factor to their relationship no being as strong is all the talk about Katniss and Peeta being star crossed lovers, and the time they spent apart.

Katniss seems to be mostly concerned about will her behavior at the games have effected the people she loves. especially after the visit from President snow?

ROMEO & JULIET

Romeo and Juliet are in love; Romeo insist on waiting for Juliet until she is ready to marry, no matter what his or her family name is. The nurses has advice in which Juliet isn't sure she should consider; if i were in the place of Juliet I would follow my heart and wouldn't let a family rivalry get in the way of my love for someone Else. Romeo isn't trying to start trouble but from what I here in his words he isn't going to give up on Juliet. the marriage is being rushed so that no other can interfere with the two's choice. 

I can tell that his love is true and that there is a big difference in time periods because I would never climb up to the balcony of a castle, and most woman wouldn't be pleased by those actions. In fact some people would file a report, get a restraining order and warn others not to associate with that person.

So this is the proof of romeo and Juliet's love for one another.

response to the play {Much Ado about Nothing}

Over all I enjoyed the play (Much to do About Nothing) but I felt that the actors were trying to hard to be funny, which I didn't expect there to be a circular stage in the middle of the theater and actors that walked into the audience were unexpected. although I felt that the actors were acting similar to children which made me as an audience memmber lose interest in the play. I did enjoy the costume choices; and the language, because the play was easier to understand. This is how I felt about the play...

Letter to a friend

Dear Justin

So I wasreading this book called Romeo and Juliet, and so far there is a lot of violence.
Sampson is very NASTY. He wants to rape maids and his jutification for these actions is he is unsatisfed with their sevices. Although there is a lot of action and fighting there are me pulling out there sorwds to fight one another but what annoys me about that is the fact that there is a lot of talking on the side and less action... romeo and juliets parents; lord Capulet and Montague are going back and forth yelling and disreaspecting eachother lord capulet called Mrs Montague a HO!!... this book is crazy I cant wait to continue reading.

Da Vinci (Artist post)

Leonardo Da Vinci is a famous artist, but he is mainly known for his paintings. He grew up in a very well/ settle background, he had a good education, and excelled in art from a young age.
He grew up in 13th (born in 1452)century Italy, right outside of Florence. 

In 1473 when Da Vinci was in his early twentys he came out with one of his first paintings call the "Annuction" this is when his carrier started to take off. Soon after he was tought by Verrocchio's studios and became a "Prfessional" artist.  Da Vinci was know not to finish he art, which was a bad habbit because he was very talented, and good at making the feel of a human body in his paintings.

One of his most famous pieces was mad in 1503 he painted the "Mona lisa", which is also known as "A woman with brown hair and a silk scarf, sitting down". The painting is of The Virgin Marry, and it was designed so that no matter where you stand it appiers that the woman is starring at you.

Tyrell (secrets in the shadows)

In the book Tyrell by:Coe Booth Tyrell is having dinner with his girl friend Novishas at her house, and her mother (Mrs. Jenkins) is hosting the dinner. There is a lot of tention in the discution, because Tyrells mother doesn't know how to talk to people, due to the fact that there haven't exactly been having civilized dinners every night because they live in a dirty one star motel. Tyrells mother lit a Newport cigaret at the dinning room table, and was hardly apollagetic for duing so. The whole dinner arangment was a diaster.

.....But what seemed to be the boiling point was after dinner when Tyrell and Novisha were arguing because she cause Tyrell going through her diary..... "Why are you keeping secrets from me?, I thought we argreed not to do that." Is what Tyrell said to Novisha and her response was you didn't tell me about the party that you were having. I think that in there relationship everything shouldn't be out in the open (somthings should be kept secret).

The biggest mistake that Tyrell made in my opinion is sleeping at Jasmines house. It breaks the trust that
Novisha and Tyrell have after Troy told Novisha. Tyrell seems to be doing all of the wrong things and all the secrets are coming out at the dinner thtat was suppose to be a posative thing... I think this could be the breaking point...

Readers Response (Tyrell)

In the book that I'm reading (Tyrell, by: Coe Booth) The main character Tyrell seems to be the father figure  to his little brother Troy. This isn't a good thing because Tyrell was miss guided by his dad who is currently  in jail and will be getting out soon. There is no money being made for Tyrell, Troy and their mother  to live in a house without government assistance. So as the oldest son Tyrell dropped out of school at the age of fifteen and started hustling for some money so that he could provide for his family. He is doing all that he could, he is being a "man," using the little tools and guidance given to him by his father. By following the example that his father made Tyrell wont get far, so he should start his own path and allow his brother troy to be able to look up to his in a positive way. Part of setting an example for Troy is showing him how important his educations is, and that doesn't only mean making sure homework is done. Troy needs someones foot steps to follow in, so if Tyrell goes to school he will be giving Troy the motive to finish school and go to collage. But if that doesn't work out what will happen when their father gets out of jail, and is in charge of all activities and duties?

Tyrell Readers response

After finding out his mother left his brother Troy home alone now Tyrell is furious. Not knowing how to control anger is one of Tyrells biggest problems. He has no one to turn to for guidance or help with problems, his closest friends don't seem to understand, and his girlfriends advice helps to keep him on track but she is a girl and doesn't fully understand things from Tyrells point of view.

Not having a father plays a big part in Tyrells anger because now he has to step up to the plate and provide for his family and not being able to be a regular kid. He hasn't been to school in two moths because he has been trying to make money for his family so that they can live a some what normal life, and if he goes back to school he will be failing all of his classes and won't be able to catch up on his studies. He use to look up to his dad, the man he looked for advice, but now he is lacking experience and is trying the role of a Father by guiding his little brother Troy.

What I feel the overall problem is Tyrell is basically giving up his life to support his ungrateful mother and his brother who he loves and is trying to protect. But at the expense of the teenage years of his life, years he will never get back, and it all goes back to the mistake of his father getting locked up and leaving his family abandoned.

Tyrell is searching. He seems confused, he needs guidance, he needs a male figure in his life, one that is a good role model. His father has been in and out of jail so even though he does look up to his father, his father isn't a credible role model.

social issues response

I'm reading an article named 8O PERCENT OF BOYS USE CONDOMS THE FIRST TIME.
This article talks about the the first time boy between ages of 15 and 19 use condoms the first time they have sex. This is a good thing and it shows that boys are taking responsibility for their actions but there are way too many teenagers that are becoming sexually active at a young age. The question is who is drawing the line? Is it the boys or the girls who are insisting that condoms are being used during sexual intercourse?

Using a condom the first your first time at a young age is critical unless you want to be a sixteen year old father. Because many young men/ teenagers don't want to take responsibility for their creations (baby).
The data has gone up and down, the percentage of boys using condoms the first time has climed 71% since the year 2001.

Poverty script/ social issues

-My mother didn't give me $25.95 to get myself a snap back ...... Life is tough

-I have two parties to go to this weekend and my mom is making me take a taxi..... Life is tough

-My studio beats broke & so did my ipad and now my mom is refusing to buy me new ones, and she told me to use my beats earphones and my iPhone 4S... Life is tough

-My mom won't buy me a camaro ... life is tough

I worked on this with Simona and she played the poor kid and /i was the rich kid (only my lines were shown) we tried to show the severity of the social issue poverty and show how some people are less fortunate than others

reflection on drugs poem

I chose this poem to show why I don't due drugs... it was a poem that touched on a really strong social issue that a lot of people in the world have problems with, which I dont understand personaly because drugs aren't economical.  This subject is something that isn't easy to come back from.... becoming sober is hard for many drug adicts especially the people that suffer from adictiom to really bad/ harmful drugs.

I'm addicted to hugs not drugs, because I know crack is wack, I dont need weed. Meth causes death, and coke makes you coke, drinking rum is dumb, wisky is riscky. drugs will make me look mug ... shots will make my teeth rot.
